Welcome
Thank you for visiting Dartmoor Photos. I hope you will find something of interest or use to you here.
The site was originally started when I was living on Dartmoor in the South West of the UK. Ten years previously, my wife and I had moved from London, on retirement, to Dartmoor in the County of Devon. We bought an ex racehorse, Alezane, and then a field and then acquired two more horses as companions for her. I then started a web site with daily postings of Alezane’s diary (some time before blogs were invented).
Of course, I needed photos to illustrate the diary and acquired a small digital camera, as my conventional cameras were less convenient. From this initial web site, I then developed a site for my local Dartmoor village, which included a monthly photo album. The idea was for folk to send in their own photos but, apart from one person, after a couple of years, no one did.
And that was the basis of Dartmoor Photos. Since moving to France in December 2006, I decided to keep the name and to publish a monthly selection of similar simple, country photos from here. The pictures are not professional nor technically perfect. What I try to do is capture a scene that is pleasing, interesting or revealing, that might otherwise be missed. You will see from the photo information that most are taken on my small digital compact rather than my SLR, as it is more convenient to always carry around with me.
Finding a property, moving in and getting it how we want it, has taken the best part of a year. I have tried to keep taking photos but have not had much time to move around the country or to publish those that I did take onto this site. Hopefully this will change now and I have added the “What’s New” section above and dated it to keep me on my toes.
Please feel free to copy and use any of the pictures under the terms of the Creative Commons Licence – basically non commercial use only.
